A Blog Born in Crisis



As I initiate this blog, it is a time of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.  The challenge of containment is shared by all nations and any challenge shared - and recognized - by all nations is an opportunity for growth for humanity.

May this blog show the proper gravitas leavened by self-deprecating humor as humanity moves forward.  Only we can determine which probable future we will actualize.  Perhaps it will allow us to seriously and effectively approach even bigger global concerns like human affected climate change!

I personally think we will emerge the better for it as people … and hopefully me as a blogger, too!

      As am I! It is good to be doing this again, allowing a little depth rather than everything packaged in 20-word quips more fun than ultimately satisfying.

    Great timing! I've been wanting to grouse to someone about the extreme level of sycophancy seen in the daily White House press conferences, and here you are! Looking forward to your thoughts on the whole situation, not just my little peeve.

  Albert Einstein has become a cultural icon of genius and most people are aware that he came up with something called Relativity, but they don't really know much except that it is some really heady thing and kind of cool to people who don't live in the real world.  So they think! Einstein is one of my leading heroes of history and it is because he was not just quirky and brilliant, it was because at the heart of things he was actually a theoretician that could work wonders in his head and bring them down to earth in such a way that they could be proven true or false.  They weren't just nice or fun ideas, they were resolvable as facts in the universe.  And, oh the implications of those facts! Confusion

I really don't feel confused.  I was attracted to science from an early age, reading Willy Ley books on how the moon landing would go in the future and Golden Books on the planets of the Solar System before the end of my third grade year.  I began college as a Physics Major and became a science teacher in the public schools on undergraduate graduation.  I studied Social Psychology in graduate school and completed a second degree in Computer Science.  I worked for over 35 years as a programmer slicing, dicing and analyzing data.  So ... the situation with Covid-19 and with the social upheaval of our times in America I don't find confusing, for it all has logical connections and is actually predictable as more data is gathered and analysis is done.  It only requires patience and study as information is developed as is always the path with science.
